Review
Justice League vs. The
Fatal Five. The most recent of the original animated films of DC 2019. The
thirty-fourth to be produced was released on March 30. It is characterized
mainly by using the same visual style as the missing DCAU (Animated Universe of
DC Comics). And everything seems to indicate that the film is set somewhere in
between before the end of the series Justice League Unlimited (2004).
But, despite being part of
one of the best-animated franchises around DC Comics. The movie left little
taste and recalls the fun and bland little Batman and Harley Quinn (2017).
Justice League vs. the Fatal Five: a reviewThe story raised
The film begins with the
criminals Mano, Persuader, and Tharok - three of the five members of the Fatal
Five - stealing a time machine from the Legion of Superheroes and transporting
them to Earth in the early years of the 21st century. Where the machine is
recovered by the Justice League and studied by Mr. Terrific. At the same time,
Star Boy, one of the heroes of the Legion. Also manages to arrive by the
temporary vortex of the machine. But the trip leaves him confused and unable to
remember what his mission is? Which added to the lack of a medication From the
future to his mind. He leaves him transformed into a schizophrenic paranoid who
ends up locked in the Arkham Asylum.
At the same time, Jessica
Cruz is presented for the first time, a new Green Lantern who suffers from
post-traumatic stress after surviving an assassination attempt. But it never
explains why or in what circumstance she became the possessor of a power ring.
Mano, Persuader, and
Tharok awaken from their lethargy in the time machine and begin to cause chaos
in the city. Since they need Green Lantern to free their companions Validus and
Emerald Empress, who are locked in the planet Oa. What leads to face the heroes
of the Justice League, helped by an unstable Star Boy.
It seems a bad episode of a DC animated series
The development of the
film has many plot flaws. It does not develop correctly to the new characters
and the premise is too simple, boring and predictable. Looking at it together,
Justice League vs. The Fatal Five seems a bad episode of the old series. Where
the characters had previously been presented and focused on solving a plot
dilemma, without paying attention to the absence of other heroes, as previously
explained why the said absence. Well, in the movie, that does not happen, as
the plot required that there were fewer heroes. There were simply fewer heroes.
The focus on the characters
The film places a special
emphasis on characters like Jessica Cruz (Green Lantern). A heroine who denies
her position due to her trauma, and Miss Martian, a teenage heroine in training
under Batman's tutelage. Who seeks to earn her place in the Justice League.
In the same way, on the
side of the villains, the appearance of Emerald Empress is translated as that
of a ruthless villain who is able to contain in his personal weapon (his
floating eye). The full power of the central battery of the Green Lanterns -
the most powerful source of energy in the cosmos.
The whole film is spun so
that these characters have a central protagonist and stand out, which is
extremely forced. Mainly when characters like Jessica Cruz or Miss Martian had
never been presented during the time of the animated series Justice League
(2001) or Justice League Unlimited (2004). So perhaps many viewers do not know
them too much.
Argumental, when falling
the protagonist in these characters, the plot is not solved in the best way.
Does not get anywhere, and is solved with easy script techniques that take much
shine to the film.
It is really a pity that
the result has been so disappointing. But along with movies like Batman and
Harley Quinn (2017). Justice League vs. The Fatal Five is further evidence that
the DCAU is a stage of the past that should not be removed again. It was good
at the time because it developed at its own pace and with its own rules; that's
why the films that try to revive it end in a huge disappointment.
